My name does not appear in the public notices, what to do?

Portuguese citizens who are not included in the Call Notice, regarding the fulfillment of the military duty to appear on National Defense Day, must request the appointment of a date. Call for Appointment - Request the appointment for the day to fulfill the military duty to appear at the DDN.

What is my situation with the DDN?

Call notices are posted at city halls, parish councils, consular posts and online. The online Public Notices contain the places and days on which each citizen must report to fulfill this military duty, and information on the situation regarding the DDN. Citizens who have already complied with the DDN or will request postponement, waiver, exemption or justification of absence can consult the online notices about the status of their situation before the DDN.

Can I anticipate or postpone my DDN appearance?

Citizens can postpone or bring forward the date or change the DDN compliance appearance location by submitting a Deferral Request. Reasons for postponement: - Illness or accident that makes it impossible to appear; - Family illness or accident, when the assistance of the summoned citizen is indispensable; - Death of spouse, ascendant, descendant or sibling, within the five days immediately preceding the call date for the DDN; - Marriage on one of the eleven working days immediately prior to the call date; - Birth of a child or adoption license for a minor; - Arrest, detention and internment; - Examination at an officially recognized educational establishment (being called for the exam day or the two days immediately preceding it); - Temporary displacement of habitual residence (for example for the purposes of studies); - Another reason that constitutes a situation of just impediment for the citizen, considering any event that is normally unpredictable.

How can I request a change in the call date?

You must complete the Postponement Request, and send it up to 5 working days before the date scheduled for your appearance at the DDN, by e-mail (putting in subject "POST"), fax, or letter, attaching the documents: - Copy / Digitization of the Citizen Card or Identity Card; - Document / Digitalization proving the reason for the postponement. The postponement is conditioned to the existence of a vacancy in the active CDDN. Regarding bus transport provided by MDM, this is subject to the availability of seats.

How can I apply for a waiver?

Citizens may be excused from their duty to appear on National Defense Day if: They suffer from prolonged illness - They must be proven by the competent public authority by presenting a medical certificate issued or confirmed by the health delegate or sub-delegate in the area of residence, or document issued by the hospital where the citizen is hospitalized, and in any case must mention the prolonged nature of the disease. Has fulfilled Military Duties in another Country - It must be proven by the presentation of a document issued by a competent governmental body and the Country has signed the European Convention on nationality, in accordance with Chapter VII, article 21, paragraph c) of this convention. Resident abroad - If you have a date for calling for National Defense Day, in one of the National Defense Day Disclosure Centers, you must accompany the application for exemption by document proving your address abroad, issued by the consular post in the area of residence or by a public administration body, police, educational institution or company in your area of residence. Accepted documents: - Document that proves that you have legally resided abroad permanently and continuously, for six months or more; - Registration certificate issued by an educational institution; - Employment Contract with a term equal to or greater than 6 months;
