Holy House of Mercy of Águeda

The Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Águeda (SCMA) dates back to November 12, 1859. Initially it dedicated its activity to the Health Area, in the old Hospital of Nossa Senhora da Boa Morte, located in Águeda, which was to be sold in 1901. In 1904 the current building of the "Hospital - Asylo Conde de Sucena was partially built. The Casa de Repouso Dr. António Breda and Lea Breda resulted from a donation by the Breda couple of their house and the land, located in Barrô, to Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Águeda, on July 5, 1987. The start of activity of Casa de Repouso Dr. António Breda and Lea Breda, on February 28, 2005, with the opening of "Lar Madame Breda" with the Cooperation Agreement signed with the District Social Security Center of Aveiro. Revised in 2016, currently with an approved capacity for 44 people, 30 elderly are covered by the agreement, for the purpose of reimbursement. The Dr. António Breda Continuous Care Unit (UCCAB) was inaugurated on 1 July 20 05. The two social responses provide services to 92 people. Lar Madame Breda has the following objectives: - to provide permanent services aimed at the biopsychosocial problems of the elderly; - contribute to the encouragement of an active aging process; - create conditions that make it possible to preserve and encourage intra-family relationships; - enhance social integration; Directed to be the residence of elderly people, who for family reasons, dependence, isolation, loneliness or insecurity, cannot stay in their home and also provide accommodation in situations of temporary stay, due to the absence or temporary impediment of the caregiver. Its mission is to contribute, in an integrated perspective, to the active and continuous process of global recovery and maintenance of its residents, providing more and better care, with humanity and in a perspective of social solidarity, in accordance with the traditional spirit of SCMA's commitment.
