The Work of Nossa Senhora das Candeias is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity, with headquarters in Porto at Rua da Alegria, and is still present in Aveiro, Águeda, Braga, Pinhel and Olhão. Founded in 1958, it aims to welcome, support, educate and train children and young people of both sexes in danger, in order to enable their full integration into society. Within the scope of support to the family, it provides educational services aimed at the training and development of children and young people. By statutory definition, whenever justified, the Work may extend the scope of action to other situations of need, regardless of religious and political options. The Work of Nossa Senhora das Candeias, in addition to primary care, seeks to provide its students, in the development of their individual life project, with an affectionately rich, psychologically balanced, culturally enriching, formative environment with a demanding moral and civic conscience and capacity critical participatory approach. Thus, the education of these children and young people necessarily involves the promotion of their integral development - bio-psycho-social-, encompassing not only the emotional aspect but also the educational and cultural aspects, so that in the future they contribute to the exercise of an responsible citizenship. In addition to the main activity of the Home for Children and Youth, the Work is also dedicated to other Social Responses in the area of Children and Youth and family support, namely through its Nurseries, Kindergartens and Study Support Services. Nowadays the Work supports on average about 650 children and young people monthly, being present in different parts of the Country. In all its services, the Work of Nossa Senhora das Candeias seeks to establish a connection with the surrounding community and with other Institutions, in in order to be able to provide an articulated response to the needs of their students and in which managers and employees are committed to continuously improving the quality of services, providing them in a personalized and humane way.
