The Typical Group "O Cancioneiro de Águeda", one of the oldest and most prestigious folk groups in Portugal, was founded on February 2, 1958, by a group of Aguedenses who, perfectly aware of the enormous wealth of folklore in our region and, in order to preserve it, it not only collected dances, songs and costumes, but also recorded by writing, drawing, photography and magnetic tape, an important part of this remarkable heritage. As of 1959, the Typical Group became the herald of popular Aguedense culture, taking it, through multiple actions, throughout the country, to the Autonomous Regions of the Archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores, to some countries in Europe, to Canada and Brazil. Due to the girls 'grace, the boys' uprightness, the beauty and authenticity of their costumes, the harmony and liveliness of their dances, O Cancioneiro de Águeda always leaves, in all the places where it operates, grateful memories, many longings and strong wishes for brief visits . In addition to dancing and singing, they are worthy of highlight to their costumes and especially those of Noivos, who already represented Portugal in the Vatican. All of this places, in all fairness, O Cancioneiro de Águeda at the apex of the pyramid of our folklore, a value, moreover publicly recognized by the Portuguese Folklore Federation, of which it is a founding partner.
