ACAPO, Association of the Blind and partially sighted of Portugal, is a Private Institution of Social Solidarity. founded in 1989. Although recent, it has one of the oldest stories of the associative movement for the disabled in Portugal. The Association's mission is to defend the rights and interests of people with visual impairments, with a view to their full socio-professional integration. For the fulfillment of its mission, ACAPO proposes to:. Represent and defend the rights and interests of visually impaired people before any entities; . Undertake and support activities aimed at promoting the physical, psychological and moral integrity of people with visual impairments, as well as their education, skills, professional training, employment, culture, sports and leisure activities. . Cooperate with all national, foreign and international entities that pursue similar objectives; . Striving for an inclusive society, promoting the public image of people with visual disabilities, dignified by culture, work and participation in social life; . Establish itself as a knowledge center in matters of visual impairment; . Propose and strive for the effective adoption of measures to eliminate the disadvantages resulting from visual impairment; . Promote the development and dissemination of equipment and services that facilitate the autonomy and equal opportunities of people with visual impairments; . Support and disseminate measures for the prophylaxis and cure of eye diseases; In its performance, ACAPO will pay special attention to the specificities of people with visual impairments with other disabilities, namely deafblind people. .
