Águeda Volunteer Firefighters Humanitarian Association

It is a fire department whose headquarters are located on Avenida Vinte e Cinco de Abril, in a central area of the city. It has a section on the old Estrada Nacional 610, today, Rua Principal da Lomba, in the parish of Agadão. At the beginning of 1908, a local newspaper brought to the discussion the pressing need for the creation of a fire brigade in the then village. That was how it went until November 1934, specifically on the 10th, when the "Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Águeda" was founded, with the consequent approval of the statutes. The first General Assembly, held on December 10 of the same year (only thirty days after the foundation) elects the late President Adolfo Ribeiro as Chairman of the Board. One year later (December 12, 1935) the first commander, Captain Eduardo Pinto Veiga, was appointed and the initial garrison formed by twelve men was installed. After three days (December 15, 1935), the command and the fire department are publicly appointed, with the presentation of the "Fargo" emergency room. On the weekend of March 3 to 4, 1935, the first exercises with a "Northerm" motorcycle pump are held in Praça da República and then Avenida do Ribeirinho. In the week that took place between July 9 and 13, 1936, the association had its first participation in a congress of the League of Firefighters that took place in Espinho. On December 27, 1960, the association's general meeting was held, for the first time in its own facilities, in what is now called Rua dos Firefighters Voluntaries, a very central artery, whose barracks were the object of remodeling and expansion works, inaugurated on December 30, 1960. September 1973. On July 3, 1993, the parish of Agadão was thrilled with the opening of a section of that association. However, on November 7 of the same year (1993), the current headquarters of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Águeda was inaugurated.
