Orfeão de Águeda

Orfeão de Águeda has more than 90 years of history at the service of culture. Despite being born under the sign of war, it was designated by its founder "Armando Castela" as a space of peace and fraternity. In 1916, Portugal has just entered the 1st World War and soon after meeting in the City Council the Patriotic Commission of the Ladies of Águeda was created, led by the "Countess-Mother" of Borralha, in order to alleviate the situation of the families of the mobilized soldiers and the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps. Even in times of extreme poverty, everyone participates. The war was present in the daily life of Águeda. The Commission asked Armando Castela to prepare some choirs for a fundraising recital. And so, Orfeão de Águeda was born under the sign of war.
