CERCIAG - Cooperative for Education and Rehabilitation of Citizens with Disabilities in Águeda

CERCIAG was founded in 1977 as a Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Disabled Children in Águeda, CRL having changed its name in 2015 to the Cooperative for Education and Rehabilitation of Citizens with Disabilities in Águeda, CRL. Its foundation resulted from the initiative of Parents and Teachers who came together and, together, sought to find a valid alternative so that children with disabilities and school age could attend a private school, since, in the so-called "public school", there was no place to receive them. Still in 1977, it is accredited by the Institute "António Sérgio" of the Cooperative Sector, today Cooperative António Sérgio for the Social Economy (CASES) and is declared in 1980, by government decree, Public Utility Institution. In 1998, due to the amendment of the Cooperative Code, it became, legally, a Cooperative of Social Solidarity, and later, in 1999, to be assimilated to the Private Institution of Social Solidarity. CERCIAG is a resource center in the area of provision of social services of general interest (education, rehabilitation, training, occupation and leisure, residential home and home support), among other specific services, aimed at people with disabilities and / or with other individual or social conditions that place them at a disadvantage and, consequently, at risk of social exclusion. It also promotes the qualification and social and professional inclusion of people with disabilities who have difficulties in accessing the labor market, acting as a strategic partner for employers, families and other social actors.
